Congress of the African Confederation of Roller Sport on the 8th September 2009

Roller Sport South Africa successfully hosted the Elective Congress of the African Confederation of Roller Sport on the 8th September 2009.

The Congress was held at Olympic house, the offices of the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) in Johannesburg.

Mr. Gideon Sam, president of SASCOC opened the meeting and welcomed all the delegates with an inspiring and powerful message. Mr. Sam urged everybody to take charge of Roller sport and to get people to take notice of our sport. He said that there are no small sports and encouraged us to grow the image of our sport and to make sure that Olympic committees in our countries see our sport and we need to sell it to the public.

Mrs. Valerie Leftwich, 1st vice president and Dr. Roberto Marotta, secretary general of FIRS attended and monitored the congress. Their experience helped to make the event a success.

Unfortunately only 5 countries attended the congress and 4 others sent their apologies but it is a starting point and the ACRS will grow from here.

The statutes of the confederation were unanimously accepted and the following persons were elected as the central committee.

President: Wendy Gila
Vice President: Joseph Mwangi Muchiri
Secretary: will be announced soon
Chairpersons for the technical committees:
Hockey: Joaquim Coimbra
Inline Hockey: Holger Mentzel
Speed: Desiree Nel
Artistic: Will be taken care of by the CC till a person is co opted

All the committee members are very dedicated and inspired to make a success of the Confederation and have undertaken to work with dedication and passion to grow the sport. We now have a legal organisation and can go forward to affiliate new members and organise African championships in all the disciplines.
